Synopsis
At France’s prison officer academy, a group of recruits learn to manage violence, enforce discipline, and absorb the logic of detention.
Step by step, their bodies, language, and beliefs adjust to the institution’s codes.
Then comes the fieldwork — and the shock of reality.
After In the Open, Guillaume Massart gets to the heart of the prison system and brings out the society that builds it.
