Logline

In the sacred city of Eleusis, beneath the celebrations of culture and history, lies a bay of ghost ships and toxic silence. Guided by activists and forgotten archives, a filmmaker descends into hidden waters where shipwrecks reveal a story of smuggling, corruption, and complicity—unearthing a truth long submerged.

Synopsis

A diver-filmmaker sets out to find a forgotten World War II shipwreck. What begins as a personal quest, born of his love for the sea, soon transforms into an unsettling exploration of Eleusis—a city once sacred in ancient Greece, now European Capital of Culture 2023, yet burdened with wounds it cannot conceal.

Beneath the surface of the bay lie ghost ships, toxic wrecks, and the scars of decades of corruption, industrial pollution, and silence. The investigation becomes a descent into both water and memory, where submerged vessels reveal not only environmental crimes but also a system that has long concealed truth, endangering public health while commodifying cultural identity.

At the heart of the story is Christos, a local teacher and activist who has carried the struggle for decades. Through his testimony and archive, a hidden network of complicity and resistance comes into view. His bond with the filmmaker anchors the narrative, transforming the stranger into a witness.

The film moves between meditative images of shipwrecks and vivid scenes of human action—between silence and resistance, death and survival. The voice-over, like an inner monologue, confronts the painful realization that Eleusis is not only a polluted place but a mirror of collective failure.

Ultimately, the documentary asks: how can a city claim rebirth as a cultural capital when its past remains submerged and its present suffocates under the weight of silence?
