panel session in collaboration with Asterisk
It can be big enough to cover a building or it can come in the size of a postage stamp; it needs to accommodate the taste of various creatives and industry professionals; it can be an art form, but at the end it needs to convince of one thing: to watch the film. Through a series of case studies, we will try to shed light on the way a poster can accompany your film through its different stages, from development to distribution, and how this one image highlights your communication strategy. We will look at the process that leads to the final design, as well as the connection to all key artwork materials and typography, as part of the film’s narrative. Because at the end, marketing is not only about the films we make, but about the stories we tell.

Nearly – or maybe even literally – everybody loves to watch series in the moment and nearly everybody wants to make one these days. The global series market exploded – thousands of new shows are coming out every year. The once much-maligned form became the most attractive one for many audiovisual creatives and audiences all around the globe. This lecture will provide an overview on the basic differences between the storytelling in series and movies. Examples will illustrate the theses, which originate from serial theories of different dramaturgs as well as from own practical experiences.

15:00 – 15:30  POP UP – a new concept of film residency
By Matthieu Darras
The Pop Up Film Residency intends to bring the best of what artistic residencies usually offer, together with a truly individualized mentorship program. Each residency is unique, specific to the needs of the project, and as a matter of fact only hosts one resident at a time. Bratislava is the first venue and is thought of as a hub, however the Pop Up Film Residency is a concept that may literally hatch out anywhere un-expectedly. After a pilot edition in 2018, hosting the Greek filmmaker Jacqueline Lentzou, the Pop Up Film Residency will launch a dozen of residency programs in 2019, mostly in collaboration with various prestigious film initiatives – first but not least When East Meets West.
